We're getting old

2007 showed a lower frequency of KGV '01 people posting on Xanga, surely a sign that we're getting old and have better things to do with our lives.

The event will be awesome.  If I don't get arrested, I'll post some photos.  I'll probably post even if I do.

Ideas and Thoughts

I've been listening to a series of lectures -- the TED talk series.  This stuff is ridiculously awesome.  I got them on podcast through Itunes on podcast > education.  They also have a website http://www.ted.com/.

My favorite talks of the day:
http://www.ted.com/tedtalks/tedtalksplayer.cfm?key=b_lomborg
Bjorn Lomborg, writer of the Skeptical Environmentalist talking about why world problems need to be priortized.  This is one of those jaw-hitting common-sense brilliant points that just have you shaking your head going "Wow!".  I'm not going to paraphrase, just go watch it.

Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia.  Just so down to earth, talking about something that I hold really dear to my heart and the #1 donation target on my 2% year charity list.  When you think about the brilliance and simplicity of the idea, it seems so pure -- and yet you see how beautifully it's been executed over the last few years and it's flabbergasting.  Wikipedia really is going to be the future of all human knowledge compiled by the world.  He expresses some great thoughts on how this whole chaotic mess comes together, and some of the organizational structure that has made it work.  Some cool facts:

- Only 1/3 of the traffic is in English.
- There is only 1 employee.  The programmer who maintains the site.  Everything else is volunteers.
- Only 18% of posts are anonymous.
- The majority of contributions come from 600-1000 people who contribute, really, as semi-professionals.

I've been listening to these podcasts while multi-tabling my re-entry to the poker world.  What a great way to turn an otherwise mindless money collecting activity into something intellectually empowering.

Gaming To Learn

Holy shit this is awesome.

http://www.seriousgames.org/index2.html

As I struggle with accomplishing my own edification and intellectual development, and am thinking about stepping away from Warcraft, I realize, shit, I can turn my own thirst for gaming into something healthy!  This doesn't have to be boring.  It doesn't have to be silly.  It can be awesome.  Countries of the world?  Their political distribution?  Religious diversity, social issues, etc?  Politics?  Finance?
